Pay firms as new Dogs' NRL coach: reports

Canterbury's 1995 premiership-winning forward Dean Pay is firming to take over from the sacked Des Hasler as Bulldogs NRL coach, according to reports.

Canterbury premiership-winning forward Dean Pay is reportedly firming to take over as Bulldogs NRL coach.

According to the Nine and Seven networks, Pay was formally interviewed on Tuesday afternoon by the Bulldogs' board in their quest to appoint a replacement for the sacked Des Hasler after six years at the helm.

Nine is also reporting that club officials have interviewed former short-term coach Jim Dymock for the role. Other names to attract attention are North Queensland assistant Todd Payten and former South Sydney coach Michael Maguire.

If Payten is to be interviewed, it may well be next week, given his involvement under Paul Green ahead of the Cowboys' grand-final showdown on Sunday with Melbourne.

Pay, a NSW under-20s coach with an unbeaten record, is an assistant at Canberra under Ricky Stuart.

The tough forward played in Canterbury's team who won the 1995 premiership.

It's understood the Bulldogs will conduct further interviews and will not make any announcement before next week.
