Peacekeeper demand declining, says Ghana

The Vice-President of Ghana tells SBS he's expecting a declining need for peacekeeping troops in Africa.

Ghana is the biggest African contributor to United Nations peacekeeping operations, with more than 3000 troops currently deployed, mostly in other African countries.

But the Vice-President of Ghana John Dramani-Mahama has predicted a declining need for peacekeeping troops in Africa.

Mr Dramani-Mahama says he expects peacekeepers can be withdrawn soon from both Liberia and Sierra Leone, though some will be needed for some time yet in Cote d'Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Vice-President spoke with Santilla Chingaipe.
