She boasts a backstory to rival anyone in Australian sport, but Sunshine Coast Lightning's Ugandan Super Netball recruit Peace Proscovia hopes to be remembered for more than that.
The world-class shooter defied her fathers orders as a young girl, escaping an inevitable life as a young mother in a forced marriage by moving more than 500km from her poor farming village to study and pursue a netball career.
Proscovia was soon scouted and became the first African to play in Britain's Super League in 2015, as well as Uganda's captain.
But, after an impressive Commonwealth Games campaign, the 29-year-old knows her biggest netball test is still to come after replacing Australian skipper Caitlin Bassett at the two-time defending champion Lightning.
"When you want something you have to go for it, there shouldn't be any limits," Proscovia told AAP.
"There are certain factors beyond our control, for example family not being in support of you pursuing your career.
"But what matters most is following your passion and dream and my successes proved to them that talent can do something.
"Now a lot of love surrounds me from home ... they've seen the value of sports."
Proscovia says she's settled nicely on the Sunshine Coast but is now keen to prove herself, starting at this weekend's pre-season tournament in Brisbane.
"One of the hardest things is to join the team at the top," she said.
"The question is are you going to make it better or worse?
"Now that I've replaced one of the top shooters in the world (Bassett), I have to test my strength."
Sharp-shooter Bassett has shifted to the Giants in an off-season highlighted by high-profile player movements.
All eight sides will be in action from Friday until Sunday at the Firebirds' new 5,000-seat arena in Brisbane in Super Netball's first official pre-season tournament.
