Peats to miss early NRL rounds with injury

Gold Coast hooker Nathan Peats is set to miss the early stages of the NRL season with a shoulder injury, suffered in the Titans' final trial in New Zealand.

Gold Coast star Nathan Peats will miss the early stages of the NRL season as coach Neil Henry counts the cost of a disastrous trial in New Zealand.

With back-up hooker Pat Politoni breaking his arm in Sunday's 26-6 loss to the Warriors, Tyrone Roberts looms as Peats's makeshift replacement at No.9.

While Politoni is expected to miss at least a month, a return date for Peats is unknown.

"We'd have to say he'll be out for a little bit of time," Henry said on Tuesday.

"Whether or not it's a major injury or it's just a minor one, time will tell."

Peats lasted 10 minutes in Palmerston North and was one of a handful casualties along with Politoni, Ryan Simpkins (ribs), Josh Olive (pectoral strain), Tyler Cornish and Morgan Boyle (both concussion).

Henry said Simpkins and Olive would miss between two and three weeks while Cornish and Boyle should recover in time to be in contention for round one.

Jarryd Hayne, Kevin Proctor, Dan Sarginson and Konrad Hurrell all missed the trial with knee injuries but are expected to be fit for round one when the Titans take on Sydney Roosters on the Gold Coast.

New signing Joe Greenwood is hopeful of getting his visa processed in time to link up with the squad ahead of the season opener.

"They are obviously trying to get me to round one depending how I settle in and obviously the jet lag and the heat." Greenwood said.

"I'm looking forward to wherever they put me and I'll try to be ready for round one."

Greenwood arrives from Super League club St Helens in a swap deal for Zeb Taia who said he couldn't refuse the lure of a three-year deal after coach Neil Henry told him he may not have a future with the Titans beyond 2017.

"I want to play in the NRL and I wanted to stay here but at the end of the day I'm looking forward to going over there and ripping in for them," the 32-year-old said.

"It's a pretty good offer for me and my family."
