Pedestrian first Qld fatality of new year

A woman getting out of a car has become the first person killed on Queensland's roads in 2018.

A pedestrian has become the first person to die on Queensland's roads in 2018.

The woman was getting out of a car when she was hit at an intersection at Logan Village, south of Brisbane, about 1.45am on Monday.

She died at the scene, while the driver was injured.

Later in the day, emergency services were called to the Bruce Highway at Chatsworth, northwest of Gympie, following a two-car crash that killed one man.

The driver of one of the cars, a 21-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Five others involved in the crash were taken to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition, where they have since been released.

And police are appealing for witnesses after a 30-year-old man came off his bike while cycling along Vulture St in South Brisbane about 3am.

Investigators initially thought he may have been hit by a car, but an examination of the bike and medical advice indicate that was likely not the case.

He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition in intensive care with serious head injuries.
