Pedestrian killed on busy Sydney road

A woman aged in her 60s has died after being hit by a truck while crossing busy Pittwater Road at Brookvale in Sydney's northern beaches.

A woman has been fatally hit by a truck while crossing a busy Sydney road at a pedestrian crossing.

The 61-year-old had dropped her car off to be serviced just moments before the accident on Pittwater Road at Brookvale, on Sydney's northern beaches, at around 9am on Friday.

Traffic and Highway Command Chief Inspector Phil Brooks said the woman was on a pedestrian crossing when she was struck.

It's believed the woman became trapped under the truck and was dragged along the road during the accident.

"Metropolitan crash investigation unit is continuing with that inquiry," Insp Brooks said.

The 57-year-old truck driver stopped at the scene and is assisting with investigations.

"A truck driver was identified and spoken to by police and his truck seized for examination," Insp Brooks said.

Northbound lanes were closed on Pittwater Road after the crash but have re-opened.
