Edson Cholbi do Nascimento, the son of soccer legend Pele, has been sent to jail more than 12 years in prison for laundering drug money by a Brazilian court.

The 46-year-old retired footballer known as Edinho was originally convicted in 2014 of laundering money for a crime gang involved in drug trafficking and sentenced to 33 years in jail, then freed pending an appeal.

Brazilian media says a judge has now reduced the sentence to 12 years and 10 months.

Edinho, who denies the charges, was goalkeeper in the 90s for several clubs, but never matched his father's career.
