A diagnosis on Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury's injured finger is expected to be known on Monday.

Pendlebury was hurt in Australia's 10-point International Rules win against Ireland in Adelaide on Sunday.

And Gold Coast prime AFL mover Pearce Hanley suffered a broken hand while playing for the Irish.

Pendlebury was hurt in the second quarter and didn't feature after halftime, being sent for x-rays - the results are expected to be released publicly on Monday.

Pendlebury is understood to have suffered damage to a top joint of a finger on his left hand.

The Collingwood midfielder broke a finger on his right hand in the AFL season, causing him to miss the last six matches.

Australian coach Chris Scott conceded the injury would prompt concern about the future of International Rules.

"It does. It's clearly something that is on our mind and I'm sure it's on the minds of the Irish as well," Scott said post-match.

"But if we want this series to work, we have got to continue to push to get the best players out there.

"And to a man, this is my third series now, every player that has been involved has loved the experience.

"There would be a little bit of surprise amongst those who haven't been part of it as to how passionate our guys are.

"As far as I can tell the series has the support of the clubs and while it has the support of the clubs and the best players, I think it has got a really bright future."

The second and final game of the series will be played in Perth on Saturday.
