Veteran Tall Black Kirk Penney is heading home, the high-scoring guard signing a three-year deal with NBL grand finalists New Zealand Breakers.

In a major coup for the Breakers, 35-year-old Penney - who averaged 20 points per game for Illawarra last season - will return to club he last played for in 2011.

It continues a poor off-season to date for the Hawks, Penney's departure coming on the back reigning NBL MVP Kevin Lisch's move from Illawarra to the Sydney Kings.
