Second-from-bottom Penrith's woes have continued with James Maloney and Liam Martin both charged by the NRL match review committee.

NSW half Maloney faces a grade one dangerous throw charge and has also been hit with a grade one dangerous contact offence in the wake of the Panthers' 30-12 loss to Canberra on Saturday.

Maloney will miss a game for each offence if he opts to fight them and is found guilty at the NRL judiciary.

Bench forward Liam Martin has also been charged with a grade one dangerous throw after combining with Maloney for a second-half lifting tackle on Raiders rake Josh Hodgson.

Martin will miss a game even with an early plea.

Besides the lifting tackle, Panthers pivot Maloney has also earned the MRC's ire for a first half suspected chicken wing tackle on Canberra's John Bateman.

It is another blow for Panthers coach Ivan Cleary after Isaah Yeo (dislocated shoulder), Viliame Kikau (ankle) and Malakai Watene-Zelezniak (ribs) were sidelined during the loss in Wagga Wagga, which relegated them to a disastrous 2-6 record.

Meanwhile, Wests Tigers prop Ben Matulino has been hit with a grade one dangerous contact charge from their 42-12 loss to Sydney Roosters.

He can escape suspension with an early plea.
