Fund manager Perpetual has again lifted its stake in casino operator Echo Entertainment above five per cent.

In a statement to the ASX, Echo said Perpetual and its subsidiaries hold a total of 41.38 million shares, or 5.01 stake in the company.

Perpetual had pared back its stake in Echo below five per cent in April.

Earlier in September, the NSW gaming regulator granted permission to Hong Kong-based entertainment and hospitality group Genting to lift its stake in the casino operator to up to 23 per cent.

Genting currently holds a 6.6 per cent stake in Echo, the operator of The Star in Sydney, Brisbane's Treasury Casino and Jupiters on the Gold Coast.

At 1150 AEST, Echo's shares were five cents higher at $4.87.
