Perry maintains rich vein of batting form

Ellyse Perry is used to setting milestones but the allrounder's weekend form with the bat suggests she could outdo her own WBBL benchmark.

It is still early days but Ellyse Perry is on track to repeat last season's WBBL top-scoring form, following a near-perfect weekend with the bat for the Sydney Sixers.

Perry scored a match-winning unbeaten 102 on Friday to help engineer a perfectly timed run-chase for the reigning champions at the expense of Perth Scorchers.

The star allrounder then played a more measured knock of 74 not out on Saturday to claim a second successive player of the match award in the win over local rivals Sydney Thunder.

The productive weekend leaves Perry with 234 runs from just three matches, having been dismissed just once.

Perry is already nearly halfway to last year's competition-high tally of 552 runs, despite having played only three of 14 regular season rounds so far.

Sixers teammate Ern Burns said Perry has successfully added an ability to switch between two different roles with the bat in T20 competition.

"She is obviously in amazing touch at the moment," said Sixers teammate Erin Burns of Perry.

"She has really changed her game this season, being really aggressive during the powerplay in the first two matches, but was able to read the situation today (Saturday), realise that she should probably bat through the innings, and was able to dial it back a bit.

"Historically she has been more of an anchor and allowed the batter at the other end to have freedom which is crucial to a lot of our girls' innings."

Perry's form at North Sydney Oval over the weekend continues a rich vein of success at the boutique venue, following her record unbeaten Test double century at the same venue last summer.

Winners of the past two seasons, the Sixers sit equal top of the fledgling ladder with two wins from three starts.

The emphatic victory on Saturday suggests the Sixers are finding ominous form following two incomplete performances by their own high standards.

"It's always good to beat the Thunder, and especially in front of a home crowd and with a great atmosphere," said Burns.

"It was a pretty convincing win in the end which was good after a bit of a scrappy win (on Friday)."
