Ellyse Perry is one of three players to have re-signed with the Sydney Sixers ahead of the Women's Big Bash League season.

On Saturday, the defending champions announced captain Perry, and fellow Australian women's national cricket team members Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner had renewed their contracts.

"Ellyse, Alyssa and Ashleigh were key members of our squad in the first two years and we are excited to have them back on board as we look to defend our title," Sixers general manager Dominic Remond said.

The trio were among the top seven run scorers in last season's WBBL, wicketkeeper Healy third with 479 at a strike rate of 123.77.

Spin allrounder Gardner amassed 414 runs to be fifth while Perry's 384 was at an average of 38.40.

Perry said that the summer provided an exciting challenge for the team.

"... it's been a thrill to be a part of some of the success we've achieved, it's also really exciting to know there is still lots of room left for the squad to develop," she said.

"It's going to be a really great challenge for us to try and re-win the title this year, but it's also a really exciting chance to push this group to a new level and hopefully play a more exciting and inspiring brand of attacking cricket."

WBBL|03 starts on 9 December under lights at North Sydney Oval with the Sixers taking on the Melbourne Stars.
