Ellyse Perry won bragging rights over her good friend and Australian teammate Alyssa Healy in the women's T20 challenge match in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Perry's Supernovas beat Healy's Trailblazers by three wickets when Pooja Vastrakar, needing one run off the last ball of the match, hit a single through mid-wicket.
The clash at Wankhede Stadium pitted two invitational teams made up of the world's best players from Australia, India, England and New Zealand in an exhibition game regarded as somewhat of an entree to an eventual women's IPL competition.
Bating first, the Trailblazers made 6-129 off their 20 overs, with Healy (6) and compatriot Beth Mooney (4) falling early, while Perry (2-20) and Megan Schutt (2-18) led the way with the ball.
In reply, Southern Stars captain Meg Lanning (16) helped to set a solid base, and despite a spluttering finale to their run-chase, the Supernovas limped to victory with Perry finishing unbeaten on 13.
The one-off clash was played as a curtain-raiser to the IPL qualifying final between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India hopes to introduce a women's IPL within the next two to three years.
