Perth girl, 18 months, drowns in Bali pool

The 18-month-old daughter of an Australian man has drowned in a Bali pool.

An Australian toddler has drowned in a Bali swimming pool after her mother allegedly became distracted by a house guest, police say.

The girl, aged 18 months, was found floating in the pool at a villa in North Kuta on Tuesday afternoon.

The girl's Indonesian mother and grandmother had received a guest at the home and were sitting in the living room chatting.

"After 15 minutes, the victim's mother remembered about her 18-month-old baby girl," North Kuta Precinct Detective Chief Putu Ika Prabawa told reporters.

Police say the girl was born in Perth to an Australian father and Indonesian mother.

The couple have allegedly separated and were in the process of divorce.

It is believed the toddler's father was in Perth at the time of the accident.

"They (the mother and grandmother) just moved to that house which has swimming pool," Chief Prabawa said.

"Six witnesses have been questioned and there's no suspect yet.

The toddler is expected to undergo an autopsy soon.
