A man who died after a citizen's arrest behind a Perth hotel had visible facial injuries, paramedics say.

Police say the 36-year-old was restrained by members of the public after he allegedly broke into vehicles on Bulwer Street in North Perth on Thursday night.

Media reports suggest the man was detained by three men who came out of a nearby gym to confront him in the parking lot of the Hyde Park Hotel.

Police said the man was held until officers arrived around 7.30pm, when it was immediately apparent he needed medical assistance.

The man had visible injuries to his forehead and nose, according to paramedics.

The man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where he died on Friday morning.

Police have not yet laid any charges and say the investigation is continuing.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

It's the second fatal citizen's arrest in Perth in the past month.

On August 29, a 30-year-old man died after he was confronted in the front yard of a Lockridge home and restrained by the homeowner.
