Members of Australia's Rwandan community are travelling to Perth to take part in a protest against the Rwandan President's participation in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Human rights advocates have criticised Paul Kagame's government over its treatment of opposition leaders.

Protest co-ordinator Robert Mukombozi says the Rwandan government maintains its hold on power through acts of violent repression.

He told Phillippa Carisbrooke, Rwandan community demonstrators - backed by members of ofther African communities - want to raise awareness among Commonwealth leaders.
