Perth temperatures are expected to drop back to 30 degrees Celsius today after three consecutive days sweltering above 41.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the three-day run of 40-plus temperatures was the first since March 2007 and just the tenth since 1933, when the city recorded four straight days of more than 40C.
A Weather Bureau spokesman says the Monday overnight minimum of 26.8 degrees was the hottest Perth night since 1989.

The bureau says temperatures are expected to be back to 40 degrees by the weekend.
On Tuesday evening, Perth residents were welcoming a return of the Fremantle Doctor after maximums of 42.9C on Sunday, 42.7C on
Monday and 41.1C on Tuesday.
Western Power said it had restored electricity supplies to almost 4,000 Perth homes that were without power for up to 24 hours during the heatwave.
An absence of strong winds has alleviated the threat of bushfires, with the Fire and Emergency Services Authority reporting only a few call-outs to major blazes in the past three days.
FESA spokesman Allen Gale said there had been minor breakouts, but they had been contained relatively quickly because of the lack of wind.
