Police are continuing to investigate the suspected stabbing murder of a 26-year-old man at a Perth CBD train station on Wednesday morning, but commuters are now being allowed back in the station.

The Perth Esplanade train station and surrounding roads were locked down for most of the day causing peak-hour traffic chaos as police began investigating the alleged murder.

A police spokesperson said the man was stabbed about 3:30am this morning after a fight broke out between two groups of people.

The man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, but later died.
