Perth woman faces jail over brothel job

A woman who along with her boyfriend lured a friend to Perth and then forced her to be a prostitute has been told she will get a jail term.

A Malaysian woman found guilty of forcing a childhood friend into prostitution after luring her to Perth has been told she will be jailed.

Lay Foon Khoo was convicted by a District Court jury this week of people trafficking by organising entry into Australia and deceiving the person about their stay.

Khoo's friend, a 29-year-old account executive and mother of two, said she visited her in Perth from Southeast Asia two years ago for what she thought was a holiday.

However Khoo and her boyfriend drove the victim straight to an East Perth brothel after she arrived in December 2015.

She had her passport confiscated, was forced to work as a prostitute and told it was because she had to pay back the $1900 Khoo had spent on her airfares.

She escaped and contacted police.

Khoo, who once worked as a prostitute, was due to be sentenced on Thursday but that has now been delayed after Judge Julie Wager ordered a psychological report.

"Don't be under any illusion, a sentence of imprisonment must result," Judge Wager told her.

"What you did (to the victim) is something the community won't tolerate."

Khoo was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on November 28.
