Phrases like 'bringing home the bacon' are comparable to racism and homophobia, PETA says

Animal rights group PETA has called for society to re-think the anti-animal language we use in our daily conversations - but not everyone is happy to swap bacon for bagels or guinea pigs for test tubes.

It wants common phrases such as "beat a dead horse", or "bring home the bacon", to be replaced in order to avoid trivialising animal cruelty.

"Just as it became unacceptable to use racist, homophobic, or ableist language, phrases that trivialize cruelty to animals will vanish as more people begin to appreciate animals for who they are and start ‘bringing home the bagels’ instead of the bacon," PETA posted on Twitter.

However, many people took to Twitter to suggest more phrases, or mock the suggestion.
