Pies hope to keep injured AFL forwards

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says they want to retain injured forwards Jamie Elliott and Alex Fasolo.

Jamie Elliott appears on the verge of re-signing at Collingwood and coach Nathan Buckley hopes they also retain fellow AFL forward Alex Fasolo.

Elliott and Fasolo have been victims of the Magpies' injury plagued season.

Between them, their only AFL exposure has been the half that Fasolo managed in round nine before he injured his ankle.

Elliott will not play any AFL games this season because of hamstring problems and he has ended up needing surgery.

But Buckley confirmed that Collingwood are on the verge of re-signing him.

"That will probably happen, they probably got that one right," Buckley said of a media report.

Fasolo will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and there is speculation he could move to Carlton.

"'Faz' is in the middle of a campaign and he's one of those guys that's trying to put together a body of work to prove that he can come in and help us up top," Buckley said.

"Anything beyond that will look after itself."

Buckley was then asked if Fasolo was a required player beyond this season.

"Yep, and anything beyond that will look after itself," he repeated.
