A bushfire in Western Australia's Pilbara region is no threat to homes or lives but those in the area need to remain vigilant.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says the small fire is burning out of control in Roebourne, 30 kilometres south of the North West Coastal Highway, but is not moving.

"There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area," the DFES said in a statement on Saturday.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
