A pilot in a firefighting helicopter has escaped with no serious injuries after he crashed into a dam on the NSW South Coast.
The contract waterbombing aircraft was dispatched to the Clyde Mountain fire when it crashed into the Ben Boyd Reservoir in the Ben Boyd National Park at Edrom south of Eden about 4pm on Thursday, the NSW Rural Fire Service said in a statement.
The pilot was able to free himself from the aircraft and is safely onshore while the chopper remains submerged, the RFS said.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman told AAP three crews and an ambulance helicopter was called to the scene and the pilot escaped with no serious injuries.
