Pilot plucked to safety from WA crash site

A pilot has been rescued after a light plane crashed in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia.

A pilot has made a lucky escape after a light plane crashed in Western Australia.

The pilot was the only occupant of the light aircraft, which crashed about 300km east of Carnarvon on Saturday morning.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority detected a distress beacon just after 10am.

Shortly after, a Royal Flying Doctor Service plane sent out spotted the pilot waving near aircraft wreckage in the Gascoyne region.

Emergency crew tried to reach the site but could not make it through the difficult terrain.
