A pilot shortage has left the Royal Flying Doctor Service struggling to fill jobs in outback Queensland.
The service has spent the past nine months trying to fill jobs for three experienced pilots based in Mt Isa and Charleville, but has had no luck.
It's having to use pilots based in coastal ports as a temporary measure, with a gap between supply and demand for pilots compounded by competition from coastal centres.
"Within the network if we have spare capacity on the coast, we'll take that capacity across to Mt Isa and Charleville to help," Shane Lawrey, the head of flying operations for Queensland, has told the ABC.
"We are just managing the network as best we can."
