Pilot survives plane crash in Qld backyard

A pilot has been incredibly lucky to survive after crashing his light plane into a Sunshine Coast backyard.

A pilot has had a lucky escape after crashing his light plane into trees behind a Sunshine Coast backyard.

The single engine plane narrowly missed homes in Palmwoods during the emergency landing shortly after take off on Tuesday at 9am.

It wiped out part of the back fence of one property before becoming lodged in bushland.

The male pilot, who was the only occupant, was taken to hospital in a stable condition with lower back pain.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this stage.

Queensland Ambulance Service Inspector Michael Riordan said the pilot was lucky the plane didn't explode on impact.

"He had a lot of fuel on board and luckily that didn't leak out when he landed," he said.
