Pistorius back in prison after chest pains

Oscar Pistorius, the Paralympian who is serving six years for the murder of his girlfriend, is back in prison after being taken to hospital with chest pains.

Oscar Pistorius is back in prison after spending a night in a South African hospital, reportedly after suffering chest pains.

The double-amputee Paralympic gold medallist was taken to hospital on Thursday and was kept at the medical facility overnight for observation.

"Oscar has been discharged and is back in prison," correctional services department spokesman Logan Maistry said on Friday.

Prison officials have not disclosed details about Pistorius's illness but media reports said he suffered chest pains and prison staff suspected a heart attack.

This was the second time Pistorius has left jail for a hospital visit.

He was taken to the hospital in August 2016 for treatment to cuts on his wrists, which prison authorities said he suffered after falling in his cell.

The athlete was sentenced to six years in prison in July last year after being found guilty of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine's Day 2013.
