After just three senior AFL appearances Braydon Preuss is already being touted as a rotating ruckman in partnership with North Melbourne's Todd Goldstein.

Despite the Kangaroos' 42-point loss to the GWS Giants in Hobart on Saturday, the 206cm Preuss played a standout game, dominating in the ruck against veteran Shane Mumford.

"He took another step forward again after a step forward last week," coach Brad Scott said, pleased with the 21-year-old's performance.

"He marked the ball really strongly around the ground, competed really well in the ruck, so he's got a bright future."

Preuss finished the game with 26 hit outs and 16 disposals, taking on the majority of duties in the ruck, and also booted two goals and a minor score.

"We will probably choose our rucks against the opposition a little bit," Scott said of how the position will be allocated in the future.

"Preuss was really good against Mumford around the ground, Goldstein is more of an athletic type ruckman who can get over the top of most and give some real mobility around the ground so we'll just try and work out the balance there and get each of them to play to their strengths."

The result from Bellerive Oval leaves the Roos winless after three rounds.

They take on premiers the Western Bulldogs on Friday.
