Refugee advocates have slammed the federal government's decision to commission a $4 million telemovie to deter asylum seekers coming to Australia by boat.

 

The drama is set to be broadcast later this year in refugee source countries like Syria, Afghanistan and Iran.

 

But the Refugee Council of Australia said it is unlikely deterrent for desperate people fleeing persecution.

 

Council President Phil Glendenning spoke with Lydia Feng.
