A play celebrating the life of renowned painter Albert Namatjira has made a triumphant return to his home community of Hermannsberg, west of Alice Springs.
The luminous watercolour style Namatjira learned from his friend Rex Batterbee earned him international acclaim - so much so, that he was the first Aboriginal man to be made a legal citizen, and met the young Queen Elizabeth.
There's scant evidence of Namatjira's wealth in Hermannsburg today, but theatre company Big hArt is returning part proceeds from the play to the community, and hopes to kickstart a financial re ovival through technology - including an i-pad painting App.
A warning to Indigenous viewers, this story contains images of a deceased person.
