Playmaker Volavola joins Rebels

Melbourne Rebels have signed Fiji playmaker back Ben Volavola for the Super Rugby season.

Melbourne Rebels' playmaking stocks have been boosted by the arrival of Fiji's World Cup five eighth Ben Volavola.

Australian-born Volavola, 25, began his Super Rugby career with the NSW Waratahs but played for New Zealand's Crusaders last year.

He has also made 14 appearances for Fiji, including starting all four of their 2015 World Cup matches in the No.10 jersey.

The versatile Volavola is likely to compete for the five-eighth spot with incumbent Jack Debreczeni but has also spent time at fullabck.

The Rebels, who struggled to a 12th-place finish last year, also recruited 22-year-old playmaker Jackson Garden-Bachop from New Zealand in the off-season.
