George Brandis is expected to change provisions of the federal laws which make it a criminal act to use language that insults, offends or humiliates on the basis of race or ethnicity.

The letter highlights the role that the Racial Discrimination Act has played in combating racial hatred and protecting individuals and groups against discrimination and hate speech.
