Plebiscite bill to be debated in Senate

The Turnbull government will move to put its same-sex marriage plebiscite bill back on the Senate's agenda on Wednesday.

The Turnbull government's doomed same-sex marriage plebiscite will come back to the Senate on Wednesday.

Cabinet minister Mathias Cormann has given notice he will move that the bill be restored onto the Senate's agenda for debate.

The bill is almost certain to fail for a second time in the upper house after which the government will move to a $122 million postal vote, which does not require legislation.
