PM Abbott faces GST debate

The Abbott government will unveil a discussion paper on tax reform in coming months and has invited comment on the GST.

However, the government remains adamant it will not lift the rate of the goods and services tax.

Some of the states, including Western Australia's Liberal Premier Colin Barnett, have urged the federal government to rethink the GST.

But Treasurer Joe Hockey says there will be "no change to the GST, full-stop, end of story".
