Both major party leaders should start the final leg of their respective bids to win votes all revved up after a feisty clash marked the midway point in the election campaign.

Both sides are claiming victory after the entertaining bout in which they both answered questions from 105 undecided voters in a "people's forum" at Brisbane Broncos Club on Wednesday.

But while 33 in the audience remained undecided at the end, 37 said they were now leaning towards Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd garnered 35 supporters.

The clash is likely to put a bounce back in their steps. So is the realisation that they are now on the home stretch until polling day on September 7.

The leader's movements on the campaign trail are usually kept quiet until the last minute.

But Mr Abbott is expected to remain in Queensland on Thursday while Mr Rudd looks set to be heading to Victoria.
