PM and Rudd tussle over Pacific solution

Kevin Rudd has rubbished Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's claim he had begged for the Pacific solution not to be dismantled.

Kevin Rudd has hit back at Malcolm Turnbull amid accusations the prime minister lied about personal conversations concerning asylum seeker policy.

Mr Rudd has rubbished Mr Turnbull's claims he begged the Labor leader not to dismantle the Pacific solution saying it represented a "post-facto fabrication".

The Rudd government closed down the Nauru detention centre in 2008.
