Summer has landed and Scott Morrison is urging his team to turn up the heat on the federal Labor Party, six months out from an election.
"As we move into next year, it is time to move into full engagement with the enemy," the prime minister told his party room at a meeting on Tuesday.
"To sharpen up our message to ensure Australians understand how we will make Australia even stronger than we have over the last five years, compared with Labor's economy-wrecking policies that will make the economy weaker."
Keeping up the military references, Mr Morrison has also urged coalition MPs to focus on the "ground game".
Australians need to be told the Liberal-National government will make the nation stronger, while Labor will make it weaker, he said.
As government MPs head into the summer parliamentary break, deputy Liberal leader Josh Frydenberg also took inspiration from a classic John F. Kennedy quote to make a request of his colleagues.
He implored them to ask not what they can do for themselves, but what they can do for their colleagues in marginal seats.
Amid the meeting, two MPs reflected on the need for their colleagues to emphasise coalition-led infrastructure projects in their electorates.
That comes after infrastructure was a focus during the Victorian Labor election campaign that led to the party's resounding win last month.
The Victorian election was also raised at federal Labor's party room meeting on Tuesday, amid the last sitting week of the year.
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten stressed half of the party's campaign ads in Victoria were positive, while half where negative, with most of the negative ads focused on Mr Morrison.
Going into 2019, Labor has "the better team, the unity and the better vision", he said.
"We finished the year the way we started it, with policy leading the debate and talking about our vision," Mr Shorten said.
"The government has finished the year the way it started it, talking about themselves leaking about each other and fighting about energy and climate change."
