PM considering new counter-terrorism department: report

The prime minister has been in discussion with senior colleagues about a potential new counter-terrorism and domestic security department, News Corp reports.

Malcolm Turnbull is reportedly considering creating a new department and ministry to focus on counter-terrorism and domestic security.

The prime minister has discussed with cabinet colleagues about a potential "super portfolio" similar to the UK's Home Office, according to News Corp Australia.

The federal government has commissioned an independent review of Australia's intelligence agencies, including ASIO, with a report due in the first half of 2017.
