Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will be doing his census online and is reminding Australians we live in a digital world.

He defended the decision of the Australia Bureau of Statistics to move to an online form, which has caused some confusion for people keen to fill out a paper version on August 9.

"It is important that we use electronic platforms more for government work. The reality is that most of us do much, if not most, of our commercial transactions online nowadays," Mr Turnbull told 3AW radio on Friday.
