PM 'dragged' to financial inquiry: Nats MP

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's decision to allow a financial services royal commission was belated but correct, says a maverick backbencher.

One of the key coalition backers of a financial services royal commission says the prime minister had to be dragged "kicking and screaming" into supporting an inquiry.

Queensland Nationals MP George Christensen, who set up a website earlier this week to lobby for a royal commission, said he hoped to get justice for victims of banking misconduct.

"It's a great outcome ... (but) I just don't understand why it took, you know, a number of National Party backbenchers to drag the prime minister kicking and screaming to this decision," Mr Christensen told reporters in Townsville on Thursday.
