PM lauds 'fair, responsible' budget

The prime minister has described this year's budget as fair and responsible as he addressed colleagues before it is delivered by Treasurer Scott Morrison.

Malcolm Turnbull has assured his colleagues the budget will deliver fairness, opportunity and security for Australians.

"It's a responsible budget," the prime minister told the coalition party room on Tuesday.

Mr Turnbull praised his colleagues for the government's achievements so far this year, including company tax cuts, energy reform and changes to school funding - to be announced in the budget.
