PM opposes Trump's view on nuclear weapons

Malcolm Turnbull says Donald Trump's idea that Japan and South Korea should take up nuclear weapons would considerably add to tensions in Asia.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has echoed the view of his foreign minister Julie Bishop opposing US presidential hopeful Donald Trump's idea of urging Japan and South Korea to take up nuclear weapons.

Mr Turnbull said the government is strenuously opposed to the further proliferation of nuclear weapons and that is the view of the global community.

"It would add considerably to tensions and the risk of conflict in the region," Mr Turnbull told Sky News on Sunday.
