Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has promised his government will work with internet companies to take “every step” in cracking down on bullying, in the wake of the suicide of Amy ‘Dolly’ Everett.

News of the 14-year-old girl’s death has prompted a renewed focus on bullying, which the family said was responsible for the tragedy.

Ms Everett was once photographed as a model for Akubra Hats. The brand posted a tribute on their Facebook page earlier in the week.
Mr Turnbull wrote a comment offering his condolences to the girl’s family, who are themselves planning to launch an anti-bullying campaign.

“Dolly, you are loved and you will never be forgotten,” the prime minister wrote.

Mr Turnbull said the “pain and loss” should be translated into further action to reduce the rate of bullying among Australian children.

He said “much more work is needed, from governments, health groups and the internet companies themselves”.
