PM pulled up on electioneering

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has continued his new year attack on Bill Shorten over the Labor leader's stance on key issues.

Malcolm Turnbull had to be reminded a federal election is not being held this year as the prime minister launched into another tirade against Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.

Mr Turnbull was in full campaign mode on Friday as he castigated the Labor leader over his stance on Sunday penalty rates, power prices, business tax cuts and free trade before 3AW host Neil Mitchell pulled him up short.

"I thought we didn't have an election this year," he told the prime minister.
