Prime Minister Tony Abbott should stop hyperventilating about the controversial Q&A episode and "get a grip", Greens Senator Scott Ludlam says.

Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce was scheduled to appear on the ABC panel program on Monday night but pulled out late on Sunday.

"Fourteen days later, the prime minister is still hyperventilating about it," Senator Ludlam told reporters in Perth on Monday.

"Really, get over it and get a grip."
