Along with calls for unity, Mr Abbott has signaled his government's intention to start the conversation of Constitutional recognition.
Mr Abbott addressed the Nation on New Year’s Eve.
At just under two minutes, the message had more than 6000 views on YouTube today and explained goals Mr Abbott wanted to achieve in 2014.
"My plan is to give you more choice , more freedom and fewer government demand so you can build a better future for yourself," the prime minister said.
Mr Abbott also said this year his government would start the conversation of Constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians .
Federal MP Ken Wyatt chairs the prime minister's committee chosen to write the submission for constitutional recognition.
He was unavailable to comment today.
The process was set to take 12 months from when it was announced in November last year.
It's highly unlikely that a submission will be tabled and then a referendum held on constitutional recognition before the end of 2014.
