Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has told colleagues the government is putting forward measures to promote an innovative and competitive economy.

Malcolm Turnbull has reassured his coalition colleagues the government's core message remains clearly focused on the economy.

The prime minister told a meeting of Liberal and National MPs on Tuesday the government must promote jobs and growth through a more innovative and competitive economy.

"We are putting measures in place to do just that," Mr Turnbull said.
