The temporary tent village has become the hub of the government as the Prime Minister and his ministers have adopted it as their base for the week.
Despite the announcement that Australian Defence Force personnel will be deployed to the United Arab Emirates, Mr Abbott remained committed to his pre-election promise made to Yolngu elders last year that he would stay in indigenous communities for the week.
Mr Abbott says that he will be in regular contact with Canberra via secure communications provided by the Australian Defence Force.
The sleeping situation is true to outback camping, with small one man tents sitting side by side, inside a larger Green canvas one.
The campsite is on Yolngu ceremonial ground, the same site that hosts the annual Garma Festival, which Mr Abbott was invited to by Galarrwuy Yunupingu.
