PM Turnbull's grandson Jack steals show

The Prime Minister's two-year-old grandson Jack has stolen his thunder at a Sydney press conference.

Pint-sized Jack Turnbull-Brown has stolen the show at his grandpa's pre-budget press conference.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull hit the hustings in Sydney's eastern suburbs soccer pitches on Sunday as he spruiked his school funding reforms.

Young Jack first caught pop's eye when a reporter threw Mr Turnbull a curly question about accusations he was walking away from Gonski funding.

The PM then fielded more questions from the press pack, but the tiny tacker grew restless when talk turned to Senate voting reforms.

Mr Turnbull quashed suggestions the voting changes may be constitutionally unsound, before telling journalists: "I can see that Jack is stealing his grandfather's thunder, so on that note..."

Two-and-a-half-year-old Jack then bounded into his grandfather's arms, giving the PM a big bear hug.

Dressed in gumboots and clutching his trusty teddy, Jack then made his grandpa trudge through the muddiest patches of the soccer fields, determined to get his wellies just a little bit dirty.
